having oprtions of Fabia...swift...Micra...polo..i20. which one is best budget around 7-8...any other good option please suggest...so confused :(
Swift seems the best option conservatively, but its looks are dated. It has excellent resale value and service support.
Maruti Ritz diesel has the same engine as the Swift, but the engine is better in quality as MSIL has used Value engineering in Swift engine (eliminated heat exchanger from oil cooler, used cheaper suppliers, blah blah) but they are still using Fiat recommended parts in Ritz due to volume contracts. If you like the (slightly wierd) model of the Ritz, then you should prefer it over Swift for two reason: 1. Better engine quality (although same engine) 2. Swift's dated looks/Ritz is a newer model (New version of Swift is going to be launched soon).
Lastly, the car i would buy if i were you is the Fiat Grande Punto. Its the best diesel car in the Indian market (IMAO). Same engine as the Swift and Ritz (and Indica Vista), but best in quality, solid vehicle build and superb handling/comfort. But two problems nag the car: 1. Service support, 2. Resale value.
Punto is the only car that was available in NFS, so you can guess....

'm from milwaukee, and in the past six years, I bought two cars! Both came from the chicago area, the first was an '84 volvo 240. it had 118,000 miles on it when I bought it, and had very minor problems with it for five years, it still runs fine, wisconsin winters rusted it out though. The other is an '88 honda, runs like a champ. I paid 1,100 for it, and maybe put 600 into it aside from new tires. look for an older car, that runs exceptionally well (no shakes in the steering wheel when going highway speed, no squeaks/ ticks/ noticeable leaking oil/ fluid in the engine/ under the hood, a solid exhaust, and decent tires are some good things to check out when looking at a car

the best way to race cheap is to benefit from other racer's failures. By this I don't mean keep driving until their engien blows up. What I mean is when they wrap their extremely built car around a tree, buy their built engine and stick it in your car. Used parts are cheaper. Pick and Pull junkyards are your friend. I don't know where you are at, but I've got a yard about a half an hour away that sells any turbo off any car for 45 bucks. With some know-how and the right tools you can turbo almost any engine and get ridiculous gains.
There is a competition based on what you are trying to do. It is called the grassrotts motorsports challenge, and the competitors must build a car for under 2009 bucks this year, and 2010 next year. The cars drag race and autocross.
Making any car that you can buy for next to nothing beat those cars will require major modifications. So used parts are where it is at.
If you really want to be told which car, a 93 to 97 camaro/firebird can be had for cheap and built for really cheap. They can make 400 horses with a cam, exhaust and an ECU. They can make a lot more than that if you do internal work
