I just bought a Pioneer 1200W Mono Amp. That amp can put out 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms and 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms. Therefore, I need suggestions on subwoofers. I need 2 SVC 4-ohm subs or 2 DVC 2-ohm subs. Which is better? And what should the RMS watts be for each subwoofer? I want 2 12's.
There's nothing good or bad about dvc vs svc. The fact is either option will work for you.
You should be looking for subs that are 250-400w rms each to expect near optimal performance with that amp.
There are some dvc 4's on this page that you won't want, but about any of the svc4/dvc2's will work for you. Generally, you're going to get what you pay for. The $40-50 options aren't going to be very high quality, but just going up to about the $60 range will be an improvement.
The only difference with multiple voice coils, is configuration. That's it. If you have a 1 ohm stable amplifier, and only want, or have the room for one subwoofer, they make quad-coil subwoofers. Same amp, 4 subs, either 4 6ohm subs in parallel (1.5 ohms at rest) I ran 4 10" subs, And 2 6 1/2's off of a 4 channel amp that way.. channels 1 and 2 ran the front's, the other channels ran the subs at a 3 ohm load.. There are vehicles out there, with 12 10"s subs, running 3 amplifiers to them..
I would look at 3 things, about subs..Cost, enclosure size, and sealed or ported...
Good Luck!
Is it stable at 1 ohm that mono amp?
If you want 2x12" subs (dvc) running at 1 ohm load to amp, then each sub can be 300 RMS each coil (600watts rms x2subs) (that is if 1 ohm stable is 1200watts.
If you run at 2 ohm, the 2x12" dvc can be 150watts each coil (150x2=300x2=600watts)
...
If you run 2x12" svc @ 1 ohm stable then you can do 600 RMS each sub. (2x600=1200watts@ 1ohm)
or run 2x12" svc @ 2 ohm then you can do 300 RMS each sub. (2x300=600watts@ 2 ohm)
Just make sure amp/s are stable at your correct ohms you want to run speakers/subs on.
Anyways, read up in manuals, online guides. The netz is full of them :)
What subwoofer, amplifier and power cap combination would be best for my current setup and car?
I currently own a 2002 Citroen Xsara and would like to expand my current audio system to include a subwoofer and amplifier, although I am unsure if I would also need a power cap. My current CD Player is a JVC KD-AR7500 and I have a set of four speakers, one with a pair of tweeters in the front
never get a cap...
always upgrade your electrical system in this order:
1. the big 3
2. a good battery (optima or kinetik)
3. HO alt (if needed)
4. add more batteries (if still needed)
if you notice serious car audio competitors will never use a cap. they use racks of batteries for a reason. besides, for what you spend on a cap, you can easily spend it on upgrading properly. a cap will supply only short bursts of power to your amps. batteries and a good alt. will provide a constant supply to your entire car. also, a cap is useless unless you upgrade your big 3, a good battery and alt. anyways….adding an electrical component to an already struggling electrical system will only make matters worse.
I would put in a 10" sub with 100-150 watts. If you listen to a lot of rap, hip-hop, house type of "music" you might want a 12". Regardless look for a two channel amp if your only going to add a sub. If you plan to upgrade your mids and highs later you might want to look at a 5 channel amp. 5 channel amps have a channel for each mid high coax speaker and 1 channel for a sub.
I wouldn't use a cap for a single sub. A cap helps provide power for the amp but draws a lot of energy from your alternator.
A ported a bandpass sub box will give you more DB's but be less accurate. You might want to upgrade your car battery to a Optima Yellow top.
I can't help you with brands because I live in the US and don't know what you have available.
In one of my trucks I have 8 JL13w7's mounted in the bed, with 4 PPI 2350 amps. So each sub is getting 1175 watts. Each A-pillars has two tweeters and a 4" mid. Kick panels have a 6.5" and 8" mid. Same setup for the rear doors. 7 TV's PS3, XBOX 360 2 5 disc DVD changers 4 batteries and thats just the audio and video.
